Custody in Iranian law, in addition to its legal and jurisprudential aspects, possesses an educational nature that can be examined across various dimensions of upbringing, including moral, social, religious, and psychological spheres. The background of this research lies in the gap of interdisciplinary studies, where custody has mostly been regarded as a duty or legal right of parents, with little attention paid to its educational dimensions. The main objective of this study is to explain the educational nature of custody and to demonstrate its position within the Iranian legal system through an interdisciplinary approach, clarifying that custody is not merely a legal responsibility but rather a framework for achieving educational goals within the family and society. The research method is library-based, utilizing jurisprudential, legal, educational, and social sources to analyze authoritative texts and documents, thereby revealing the various aspects of custody as an educational institution. The findings indicate that custody in Iranian law, beyond fulfilling the material and physical needs of the child, fundamentally contributes to the formation of personality, religious and social identity, and moral upbringing, while existing laws, despite certain shortcomings, hold significant potential for strengthening these dimensions. The conclusion of the study is that rethinking custody regulations with an emphasis on their educational nature can lead to legal and social reforms and pave the way for enhancing the quality of upbringing within families and society.
